When a lift reaches end-of-life, requires major modernisation, or a building is being repurposed, removal needs to be planned and executed with absolute control. Altezza provides end-to-end elevator removals, from site assessment and isolation through to dismantling, logistics, waste management and final handover. We prioritise safety, efficiency and compliance, and work in line with relevant Australian Standards (including AS 1418 and AS 2550) and site-specific requirements.

What We Remove

Altezza completes both full elevator removals and partial strip-outs, tailored to your project scope and timeline. We can remove or dismantle lift components, including:

  • Lift car, sling and associated assemblies

  • Counterweight systems and guide rails

  • Machine room / MRL equipment (traction machinery, controllers, panels)

  • Doors, entrances, sills and landing equipment

  • Travelling cables, safety gear and ancillary hardware

  • Hydraulic equipment (where applicable), including power units, Rams and pipework

Where required, we coordinate staging to keep other building works moving with minimal disruption.

When Elevator Removal Is the Right Option

You may need an elevator removal or decommissioning when:

  • A lift is being replaced as part of a modernisation or redevelopment

  • The building is converting use (e.g., commercial to residential or mixed-use)

  • Equipment is no longer serviceable, supported, or economically repairable

  • You require a shaft/hoistway clear for structural works or services relocation

  • You need compliant isolation and removal prior to demolition or major refurbishment

If you're unsure whether a full removal or staged strip-out is best, we'll assess the site and recommend the safest, most cost-effective approach.

Our Removal Method

We run elevator removals as a controlled project planned, documented, and executed to reduce risk and downtime.

  1. Site inspection & scope definition – confirm lift type, access, cranage/rigging constraints and sequencing

  2. Isolation & safety planning – permits, lock-out/tag-out coordination, and site risk controls

  3. Controlled dismantling – systematic disassembly to prevent shock loading and structure damage

  4. Handling & logistics – lifting plans where required, load management, transport coordination

  5. Waste, recycling & disposal – responsible removal of scrap and components with clear documentation

  6. Final handover – sign-off, photos (if required), and closeout documentation for your records

Safety and Compliance

Elevator removal is high-risk work. Our approach is built around disciplined controls, documentation, and competent execution. We:

  • Plan removals around site constraints, access, and live-building risks

  • Apply practical safety controls to protect occupants, trades and assets

  • Work to relevant Australian Standards and project requirements (including AS 1418 and AS 2550)

  • Coordinate with builders, facility managers and head contractors to maintain a clean interface between trades

If hazardous materials are identified on-site, we will pause and coordinate appropriate specialist handling in line with your project governance.

Minimising Disruption

We understand that removals often occur in busy buildings with competing schedules. We can support:

  • After-hours or staged works (where feasible)

  • Noise and dust control expectations aligned to site rules

  • Clear exclusion zones and communication for occupants and stakeholders

  • Efficient sequencing to keep the overall project moving

The objective is a safe removal with minimal impact on the surrounding structure and operations.
